Passion, Profession, Vocation and Mission: IKIGAI

Sherezade's Story

Meet Sherezade Ruano, a dedicated therapist specialising in Neurocardiology, nervous system regulation, and breathwork. With a career spanning 17 years, Sherezade’s journey in medicine and healthcare began under the mentorship of highly acclaimed consultant cardiologists in the UK such as Professor Avijit Lahiri, and Dr David Lipkin. Her initial foray into cardiology involved a research study on cardiology and diabetes, where she served as a fellow for four years.

During this time, Sherezade delved into the intersection of traditional medicine and holistic practices, exploring the profound impact of yoga, meditation, and therapeutic breathing on her patients.

Balancing her commitments at the hospital, she dedicated herself to immersive training in yoga philosophy in both the UK and USA. Exploring traditions deeply rooted in the science of meditation, advanced pranayama techniques, and rigorous physical yoga practices, she gained a profound understanding of holistic well-being. With a background as a semi-professional ballet dancer, she seamlessly blends her enduring passion for movement, health, and healing with her medical expertise. This harmonious integration is palpable in both her clinical practice and teachings.

Upon returning to the UK, she obtained approval to commence a pilot study, which demonstrated positive subjective and objective medical outcomes using her method. This success culminated in a research venture, highlighted by a seminar attended by 160 cardiac experts. The seminar focused on managing patients’ mental health in conjunction with their cardiometabolic risk factors.

Only a few years after completing her research project, Sherezade pursued additional training as a therapist and counsellor through the NHS’s IAPT services. Armed with a Master of Science in Cardiac Intensive Care and her groundbreaking research background, she secured a position as one of the few senior specislist nurses in arrhythmia in the UK, working alongside renowned cardiac experts such as Professor Kanagaratnam, Dr Amanda Varnava, and Dr Lim Boon.

For a decade, Sherezade navigated both community and in-hospital settings within the NHS, sharpening her skills and expertise. This invaluable experience eventually led her to establish her own private practice using the success of her pilot study transforming it into a method named RhythmiaBreath.

She has proudly collaborated with medical experts, offering her expertise in developing best-seller books, such as The Piopi Diet authored by the world-renowned Cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra. Her method has also been shared at Baptist Hospital, Miami, where she educated nurses on managing patients’ risk factors with a special emphasis on stress reduction.

In her international endeavors, Sherezade has enriched her experience in countries like Switzerland, where she played an invaluable role as a stress management expert in world-renowned clinics focused on addictions and recovery. Additionally, she has worked with executives and high-profile clientele, particularly in countries such as the USA, Kuwait, and Oman, demonstrating a confident navigation of diverse cultures and mental models.

In the mental health scene, Sherezade is proud to be working with outstanding mental health professionals such as Noel McDermott, Dr George Resek and internationally acclaimed Dr Brian Weiss.

In the past few years, Sherezade has discovered a deep passion for Executive C-Suite counselling, digging into the science of Burn-Out, Personality Profiling and other areas such as Narcissism and narcissistic abuse, toxic relationships, and intrapersonal dynamics.

Sherezade has been a trusted therapist to NASDAQ company founders, investors, and Fortune 500 entrepreneurs, helping them navigate challenging circumstances with resilience and clarity.

Her philosophy and ethos are rooted in the Japanese concept of IKIGAI, finding fulfilment by aligning her work with her values and making a positive impact on the lives of those she serves.
